The good hoops are actually several veneer-thin layers of beechwood laminated together. The hoops appear to be “endless circles” like a wedding ring.
This hoop was made by bending a thin strip of wood until the ends of the strip touched each other. Then the ends were crudely stapled to a block of wood. The crummy block is not shown in the picture….Hope that the staples don’t tear the fabric!
Also, the holes for the hoop-tightening bolt are mis-aligned, making the hoop hard to tighten and loosen.
